Orla Kiely AW11 collection at London Fashion Week

The showcase was a combination of a short film directed by Mercedes Heinwein shown in garden sheds and larger than life images of the models on the walls of the Portico Rooms.
The room was decorated with rickety benches and small leafless trees with cute little stuffed birds perched on the branches.
These branches were a bit lethal as soon as the room filled up and movement was restricted, hair got tangled and eyes nearly pocked out. Panicking I felt I was in Hitchcock’s film ‘The Birds’ which was spot on as the main inspiration of the collection was the actress Tippi Hedren in said film.
Rows of cute bird silhouettes adorn the front of woollen dresses and knitted tops with matching coloured a-line skirts styled with a double row of buttons down the front and large bow on the waistline. Raincoats, shorts and tailored jacquard dresses have a more subtle bird pattern all over in dark blues, lichen greens and camels.
Checked tailored suits, dresses and coats have full A-line skirts and come in creams, camels and black with the cute double breasted belted coat in a light colourway of camel with light blue check.
Cable knitted skirt and jacket sets are in bright peacock blue (maybe another nod to the Birds) Her key pieces are the leather princess coat with its oversized buttons and the delicate tri-collared silk crepe blouses..
Was and looked great but you can’t beat seeing the actual garments on the models.
