For BBC Children in Need’s Designer Pudsey Collection, Emma
Farrow, the design manager of Topshop, turned to the Topshop Unique SS12
collection for inspiration. And what was the inspiration behind Topshop Unique SS12?
– The glamour and opulence of Ancient Egypt brought in to modern urban London.
From top to paw, Pudsey is wearing a modern monochrome take
on the ancient hieroglyphics; black on white with a contrasting white on black
for his ears (only the front) and paws. There
is a faint shimmer to the fabric giving Pudsey a pharaohic glow.
The eye bandage in sliver spangled metallic fabric would make any Egyptian
mummy proud.
His eye is that of a black button adorned with a silver scarab
beetle, revered in ancient Egypt as the symbol of resurrection and worn as a
good luck charm.
Around his neck is he wears a chunky silver chain complete with charms
of the sacred scarab beetle, and other good luck amulets such as the single eye
and hand.
The Desinger Pudsey Collection is being exhibitied on the 2nd floor of Liberty in
London until 19 Nov.
