INIFD x LST present: Aman Khaneja at London Fashion Week

The Indian based Inter National institute of Fashion Design (INIFD) x The London School of Trends (LST) showcased the capsule collections of 18 student designers and graduates from across India.
Aman takes inspiration from locks and shackles to express the struggle which women continue to face in the patriarchal society.

Golden chains wrap around the sleeves of a jacket worn with a midi dress made of patchwork tartan

Giving a positive outlook Aman uses a laser print of eagles in flight on a short quilted jacket to depict the freedom which all women deserve.

To celebrate the work of Indian artisans and the joy of the Western market, Aman uses Katdana (or cutdana ) embroidery on two tone velvet Western style dress. This style of embroidery is the use of beads which have been cut at specific angles to reflect light. These beads are sewn on to fabric with thin thread to create patterns. Traditional patterns are floral or geometric. Aman choses the geometric design.

Golden Nalki tubular embroidery adorns the neckline of a organza capelet like a statement necklace. These handcrafted golden embellishments brings an age old tradition to the collection

Aman uses the Western tartan for his loose Indian style trousers and pairs with a cropped blouse with appliques of sleek stripes developing a distorted tartan effect.

Inspired by the human eye as we see the world because of the eye, the collection features digital prints of the eye.

Large images of the eye's iris are found on tie dye effect garments.

whilst long feather eyelashes adorn a tailcoat jacket.

Nisha Sundrani takes inspiration from the relaxed but glamorous style of the 1920s era.

Nisha updates the 'Flapper' dress replacing fringing with loose leaf appliques

Wearing pyjamas as daywear is on trend now but it is no new concept as the craze started back in the 20s when they were worn as beach pyjamas over swimsuits in the French Riviera.

Colour palette is of metallic yellow, black, dusty pink, blues and rose gold. Fabric include organic silk with hand dyed technique

INIFD x LST presents:Purnima Shetty AW18 at London Fashion Week

The Indian based Inter National institute of Fashion Design (INIFD) x The London School of Trends (LST) showcased the capsule collections of 18 student designers and graduates from across India
Titled 'Umble Trumble', Purnima Shetty takes inspiration for her collection from the fashion and romanticism of the 1830's - an era between the Regency period with its high waisted empire line and the Victorian period with its caged crinolines and bone corsets.

The 1830's saw large ornate sleeves such as the gigot (leg or mutton)or double soufflet and full skirts embellished with various pleats and belt or sash tie creating the illusion of a narrow waist (often with the help of a corset).  Purnima updates this look with pleated paper bag waist culottes and multiple ruched sleeves.

Sheer sleeves overlay were popular for evening and Purnima interprets this with a stiff transparent net  coat over a sheer dress adorned with 3D flowers to give a bulky but feminine look.

Colour palette is fresh with sunflower yellow, dusty pink, pistachio green, burgundy and silver grey.

Sonam Aggarwal took inspiration from the intricate inlay work on the Taj Mahal

The pietra dura (pictorial mosaic work) on the Taj Mahal includes geometric elements such as the Chevron pattern and plants & flowers with their tendrils meandering.Golden leather complements the richness of the designs,

The floral Parchin Kari work's tendrils form a shape of a heart as seen in appliques on Sonam's midi dress

The tie dye effect Sonam uses represents marble.

Rocky Star SS17 - London Fashion Week

Titled 'Shringara', Rocky Star's SS17 collection is all about the alluring atmosphere that one enjoys with their love.

Shringara denotes love and beauty but gives scope for a myriad of other emotions.

The collection celebrates love and its many moods by bringing together decorative prints, handcrafted textiles and opulent embroideries.

It is a modern take on a woman adorning herself as she waits for her love to come.

Colour palette is shades of grey, forest greens and light pastels

Light pastels embrace her feelings of joy

Grey and green, her feelings of fear as she makes her trepid journey through the dark forest to her love.

Fluid georgettes and chiffons highlight the romanticism of the collection,

whilst voluminous silhouettes are a coalition of beauty and drama.
