MARKUS LUPFER PRESENTS THE Pre FALL/AUTUMN 2016 COLLECTION

The wintry contrasts of Nordic nature create the canvas for Pre-Fall 2016, where the elemental colours of a cold climate deepen the rich florals found amongst ice-capped peaks and mossy forest floors. It sets the tone for a darkly romantic collection embodied by folk inspired motifs and a traditional sense of native earthiness.

A fairy tale atmosphere is established in themes of placements prints, patterns and embroidery influenced by the intricate nineteenth century paper cuttings of Hans Christian Andersen. They materialise in garments adorned with flowers, checks and charming nature scenes such as a swan lake design. Snakeskin pieces and a geometric metallic jacquard back up a 1960s mood echoed in short skirts and little jackets.
Knitwear takes centre stage in cable knit, lurex jacquard, and graphic intarsia, and in the shape of a cape embellished with embroidered florals as well as frills, which appear throughout the collection on high necks and cuffs once again highlighting a folky element to the season.
Embracing the natural Nordic character, boots with lipstick-shaped heels are covered in sheepskin while evening heels in metallic frills reflect the collection’s contrasting themes. Handbags carrying the signature elements of the brand are introduced to the collection.
Produced in Italy, all materials including suede, textured grained calf, and sheep skin are patchworked and colour-blocked into casual styles for a relaxed daywear feel.
Colours are refined and kept to muted flesh and earthy tones, while lip-shaped gems reflect the trademark embellishment of the brand and add a sense of fun to the pieces.

Hannah Jinkins was announced as the winner of the H&M Design Award 2016.

Jinkins, a graduate from the Royal College of Art, London, was selected from eight finalists by an international jury that included amongst others Kate Bosworth, Olivier Rousteing and Nick Knight.  “I feel very honoured and proud to have won the H&M Design Award. When my name was announced, it was very surreal and I felt quite emotional. I want to start my own label, and winning the award means I can follow my dream,” says Hannah Jinkins, winner of the H&M Design Award 2016.

PINGHE X Swarovski - The SS16 Collection

SS'16 - Art & Fashion - We Are Islanders

Inspired by Disappearing islands, and a lifelong utopian quest, We Are Islanders SS16 collection is titled ‘The Journey to Hy-Brasil’

Hy-Brasil is the name of a mythical Atlantean island long embedded in maritime legends, shanties and cartographical seascapes; Irish myths described this apparent nautical anomaly, as cloaked in mist except for one day every seven years, when it became visible but still could not be reached.
In the 18th century, two female explorers and botanists, Ida Laura Pfeiffer & Jeanne Baré, posed as men, boarded a boat to find the island, and explore its unique botany and life.
One Austrian, one French their journey took them to the wild Atlantic where they navigated their own boat to the spot they thought the land stood. As the mist cleared they saw no land but in the distance they saw another landmass appear from the mist. They sailed on only to have the same experience as the mist cleared again. Their boat was seen in the distance by a passing ship but the two explorers were never seen again, they are said to have spent the rest of their lives searching for Hy-Brazil.

The journey to Hy-Brazil represents in many ways the need to move away from the linear in our understanding of form.
One interpretation of the story is that Hy-Brazil was actually a shell island that through erosion was moved and broken down over time. This raises interesting questions about landmasses, islands and borders. What if they are continually moving and never static, as we like to imagine? ‘The Journey to Hy-Brasil’ is a celebration of the pioneering spirit. It is a questioning of the accepted idea of form, gender and line.

The collection presents a series of hand-painted silks, cotton twills, and muslins and Irish linen, with salmon skin leather finishings.

Hand Painted Prints
The use of analogue print methods and design are informed by the idea of fluidity, and a challenge of the static. The hand-painted prints embody movement, but find form in the bamboo silk separates like the ‘Ida’ titled, quilted skirt, palazzo trousers and full length double spaghetti strap-dress, all of which include salmon skin leather finishing details.
 Linen
The 100% Irish linens used throughout the collection are rendered in clean understated lines which achieve drama in the ‘Botany’ blue striped linen full length double spaghetti strap-dress and trousers, both of which include salmon skin leather finishing details, and in the yellow linen full length ‘Boat’ coat, and trousers finished with salmon leather skin.
 Shapes
Lines are expereimented with throughout the collection, scultptural shapes and motifs are present in the ‘Botany’ blue pin-stripe coat, the ‘Boat’ canary yellow linen open back jumpsuit, the ‘Ida’ hand painted silk gilet, and the power loom cotton ‘Island’ shirt.

ACNE STUDIOS DEBUT BAG COLLECTION

Acne Studios introduces its first full range of bags.
The new designs include Buckle jeans, Hero jeans and the Rope styles.  Each bag is 100% made in Italy and is be available exclusively in Acne Studios stores worldwide and on http://www.acnestudios.com/bags/

"For me a bag is more than an object, it's a personal thing. When I started looking at bags, the intention was not to do an "it-bag", but to explore the world of bags and create different styles and characters. I really enjoy designing bags since it's so sculptural, almost like creating a piece of art" - Jonny Johansson, Creative Director.
The Rope styles take the central motif from the Fall/Winter 2015 collection. Mirroring the catwalk looks, rope stitching is used to organically reduce the volume of the bags, as if the leather has been cinched.
There are three Rope styles: the Rope jungle backpack, plus the Rope messenger bag and Rope hip bag, which both have wide adjustable straps like those of a guitar.

The Buckle jean style came from Jonny's fascination with the uselessness of champagne bags. The bucket shape was born, and when it was noticed that its side resembled the top of a pair of jeans, a belt buckle was added, and the stitching made white.
Hero jeans is a natural development of the Buckle jeans style turned into a rectangular large shopper bag. As with Buckle jeans, it comes in a variety of colours including blue denim, cognac, black and glycine.

How Kiss Me Deadly killed their salesman - and did 164% better with their new collection!

Can a fashion brand kill their salesman and get away with it? Kiss Me Deadly seem determined to try!

Using market-disrupting crowdfunding site Kickstarter, they launched a short Film Noir series to show their collection. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kissmedeadly/retro-lingerie-fashion-for-femme-fatales-by-kiss-m
This was only fitting for a Femme Fatale independent lingerie brand - but uniquely and radically different to the standard Kickstarter infomercial style!
Was it their pint-sized Spanish muse, photographer and model Morgana, French press assistant Maz, boss Catherine, or even spokesmodel and former BNTM Jess Abidde?

Did the staff feel anxious about acting? Not so much, according to Catherine, the brand founder. "All the problems shown in the film (demands to drop limited editions in favour of beige basics, criticisms of our imagery for not being "nice" enough, and sleazy suggestions) are very real, so it wasn't so much acting as just camping it up!"
The new collection and film have all the characteristics that made Kiss Me Deadly the UK's favourite Lingerie Designer in 2012 - bold, vintage inspired styles in satins and lace, plenty of cross over into outerwear, and models who don't fit into any standard agency criteria - and don't care.

Left: Burgundy Pankhurst set, in sizes 32-36B-G and S-XL
Right: Gold Angelou set, Black Satin Valenti, Ariadne corset and seamed stockings.

 Left: Leonie Gown.
Right: Grace Gown and Robe.

Left: Custom made to measure one of a kind gown for the top pledge reward.
Right: Swarovski Crystalled Black Satin Demi-Corset.
