Do You Know Who Made Your Clothes - Fashion Revolution Day

We wear our clothes to express ourselves and tell a story, but do we ever stop and wonder about the story of where they actually came from or who made them?

On 24th April last year, 1133 people were killed and over 2500 were injured when the Rana Plaza factory complex collapsed in Dhaka, Bangladesh. In memory of the Rana Plaza disaster victims, Fashion Revolution Day www.fashionrevolution.org has been created to promote transparency across the supply chain and to encourage everybody to stop and ask for a moment: WHO MADE YOUR CLOTHES?

Raising awareness and showing their support for the very first of many Fashion Revolution Days to come, Calico PR’s creative team created a shoot using a selection of ethical and sustainable brands. From clothing to shoes, accessories and even underwear, the UK based brands show how the entire wardrobe can now be gentle on the skin, the environment and still look bang on trend!

Fashion Revolution Day aims to celebrate fashion as a positive influence. On Thursday 24 April 2014, the first Fashion Revolution Day, ask people to be curious in the way they see their clothes. One of the simplest ways suggested is to get people to turn an item of clothing inside-out for the day, to reveal the labels which show where their clothes were made. What will you do to show your support?  #InsideOut

CASADEI A/W 2014-2015

Inspired by two worlds:
The parties thrown by Cole Porter in Venice in the Roaring Twenties. The cabaret ensembles of the international actresses, stars and socialites that crossed the San Marco Canal on gondolas to reach palaces ablaze with candlelight.
And also the vintage yet contemporary beat of Daft Punk’s latest album and the eclectic glamour of the band’s electronic rock music that has cast its spell over the today generations.

The contrastive twist is immediately noticeable in the details. Reminiscent of the whirly-twirly decorative motifs of the Venetian gondolas, the toes and heels of gold coronate the sculptural intarsia effect. While, in diametric opposition, the golden filigree motifs that adorn the heels emphasize the game of solid and transparent. Gold, silver and copper chains and lustrous metal elements mingle with python and nude-effect mesh inserts to continue the dichotomy.

The suede pumps seem to be airbrushed with the warm and dense colours of the makeup worn by women in the Twenties, creating a symphony of sensual and sophisticated shades that range from fuchsia to coffee and from grape to aubergine.

Daytime shoes tread a lot more ground in this collection with softer styles, such as the brand new camperos style, that are perfect for the everyday. The constructions add the final polish to the original inspiration. On the one side, stiletto or cylindrical rock heels; on the other, a new construction that is essentially a three-part plateau, in the manner of a bridge designed by a famous architect. The first part stops after the toe and then snakes under the instep, stopping for breath before resuming its journey under the spectacular yet comfortable heel. The virtuoso finale to a symphony of opposites.

F&F Autumn/Winter 2014 Fashion Show

Not usually a clothing brand synonymous to fashion shows, F&F Clothing really pulled out all the stops for their Autumn/Winter 2014 collection with a glamorous and star studded event at Somerset House, home to London Fashion Week.

Titled Eclectic Indulgence, the collection juxtaposed the feminine satin slips, sparkling sequined trousers and sexy sheer blouses with the more masculine tailored boyfriend jackets.

The AW14 season sees new shapes in luxe fabric that play with length and volume ranging from the longer dropped silhouettes of the satin slip dresses to a nod to the 60s shorter lengths. Layering of coats, sweaters, skirts and trousers were in mixed fabrics.

The colour palette moves from light neutrals, soft pinks and berry to the more dramatic darkness of black and grey with metallics.

There’s a hint of 90’s Goth in sheer black separates which are mixed with heavier pieces,
Embellishments and bejewelled fabrics add an indulgence and drama. Check out the lace court shoes.

Faux fur in every size, shape and colour arrives on oversized coats and stoles, worn to add a chic appeal when mixed with sharp tailoring making for retro ladylike feel.
Will be available soon in selected Tesco stores and online www.F-F.com

La Redoute Shares 7 Secrets to French Style And I Share My Own Favourite Style Tip.

Items from www.laredoute.co.uk

My Favourite Style Tip is Don’t be a Fashion Victim
It is so easy to get carried away with all the latest trends, designer labels and ‘Must Have’s that we often forget what makes us look fabulous; what is OK but nothing special and what absolutely looks terrible on us.

So how do we stop becoming a fashion victim?
Rule no 1: Shop for your body shape and colouring
When you try on the latest trend, step back and really look closely at yourself in the mirror including your face. Is the colour draining your complexion or is the colour making it radiant? We want youthful and beautiful radiance!!
Does the style flatter your body shape? I'm not talking about the little lumps and bumps we all have, but if that 60s style shift dress is turning your curvaceous figure into a box shape, then go for the more fit and flare style instead.

Rule no 2: Read La Redoute's The Secrets to French style

This shows you 7 wardrobe staples that will help you achieve the chic look French women do so well. These staples are your wardrobe foundation and will last many seasons.

Rule no 3: Introduce some seasonal trends to your wardrobe staples to keep fresh and updated.
This can be just a scarf or a piece of jewellery it doesn’t have to be big or expensive .

For example: The Trench coat and the white shirt mentioned in La Redoute's The Secret to French Style

The trench coat is a classic staple.

Usually in neutral shades of beige or black, this is an ideal canvas to add a pop of colour by means of a scarf, brooch or statement bag.

There are many colour trends this season ranging from white and pastels to the bold brights, so you are bound to find one that will suit and flatter your complexion.

The tropical trend is hot this season so get the look with just a Tropical print scarf
Price £21

Bags can be any latest colour you want as they are not close to your face so don’t need to suit your complexion.

The fringed suede bucket bag comes in fuchsia, bright blue as well as the classic camel and black.

 Price £95

You can even change the belt for a skinny or wide leather belt to create your own unique style.

The crisp white shirt is so versatile.

Wear with casual jeans or with a smart pair of trousers or skirt.
Statement jewellery is BIG news at the moment and looks so glamorous yet understated over a white shirt.
Balsamik Beaded Bib necklace in trendy orange. Price £19
