Lako Bukia AW12 Catwalk Collection at London Fashion Week

Silver metallic cloth flowed like a moonlit stream down the catwalk – thoughts immediately conjured up the colour palette was going to include silver metallic and maybe have a darker feel to her previous collections.

And I was not disappointed

The colour palette was black, silver and pewter.

Fabrics of lurex, matt and metallic leather, matt suede, matte wool and black chiffon. 

 Skirt shapes included the skater style with a touch of the 50's prom look.....

..... and the short body con pencil skirt

Titled Broken Mirrors, this was her inspiration and the belief that if you break a mirror it will bring bad luck.  Her AW12 designs are for strong women who are not afraid to face their fears and so challenge the broken mirror myth.

 The leather was either in jagged geometric patches separated by chiffon or jersey representing the broken mirror........

.....or on metallic leather trousers, pencil skirts and coat sleeves as a tactile shattered glass pattern design.

The finale dress summed up the whole inspiration with its billowing ethereal long skirt and its delicate diaphanous chiffon top covered in twinkling mirrored shards – showing an Amazonian feminine strength ready to conquer all fears.

 Her signature chunky triangular heels are a favourite of mine but this season she introduced a triangular heel made of  a  broken clear ‘glass’ which glimmered in the light – now a new favourite.

I’m sure this Broken Mirror collection will dispel the bad luck myth and will bring only good luck to this talented designer.

Lako Bukia Spring/Summer 2012 collection at London Fashion Week

This poor woman was suffering from a high temperature a few days before the show but ever a professional the show must go on and what a show. 

This season the inspiration was simple – Asian trees and flowers, but the results were beautiful hand drawn flower prints, the first time Bukia had introduced a print to her collection.  

The show started with flowing grey chiffons grounded by structured white mandarin collars, 

with only a glimpse of red showing on chiffon shorts ...

and blouses as the oversized flower print. 

The monochrome returned with an ethereal tree print silhouette on a white background. 

The red then made its dramatic entrance in the guise of silk satin cropped trousers...

followed quickly by a red satin bodice teamed with a wonderful pair of wide legged trousers in black and white wide horizontal stripes with the overlap of the large red flower print. 

These were my favourite until a red and white vertical striped empire line chiffon dress came along with its red silk satin cut away bust and pauldron. 

Lako's signature triangular heels were ever present , here lovingly tied up in a chiffon bow.

Lako Bukia AW11 collection taking the bullet at London Fashion Week

Lako Bukia’s collection titled ‘Choxa’ took inspiration from the Georgian (her home country) National Ballet men’s costume of the same name, for both the fit and colours.

Bukia emulates the Choxa long jacket’s cinched in waist and full skirt style on to some of her dresses, using lots of leather...

although she still keeps her much loved floaty chiffon styles. 

To decorate a traditional choxa, lots of ammunition is used one being a row of bullet tube pockets across the chest. Bukia reduces the row and adds to feminine diaphanous blouses which are balanced out with strips of leather on collars or shoulders.

 One of her key pieces: was a black jumpsuit with leather shorts and chiffon top embellished with the bullet tube pockets.

She takes the bullet on other pieces a step further by adding to the side of waists,

as belts and trimming the tops of her knee length boots.

They also trimmed her signature shoes

The traditional coax colours of black, white, grey and wine red were used giving a clean palette.

However she mixed it up with the more autumnal shades of dark and mid tone browns,

camels,

rose beige 

and a few pale pastels which she used for her chiffons to bring a more feminine feel to the darker masculine leathers and bullets.

The last 2 dresses were of chiffon and embellished with large gold sequins

with the finale dress looking quite warrior queen with its chainmail of gold.

Her signature chunky triangular heels, both in plain and in two tone colours, were nearly upstaged by the chunky 4 bullet leather heel, but I think that style was only for this season – a pity as they were stunning.

Lako Bukia Spring/Summer 2011 Collection at London Fashion Week

Titled ‘Surati’, Lako Bukia's Spring/Summer 2011 collection has been dedicated to Georgian culture and religion, Bukia’s native country.

Colour palette of soft blues, pinks, greys and natural tones were taken from the Georgian buildings.....

......although red, midnight blue and black were also included.

And strong shoulders souring out and upwards representing the silhouettes.

Light fabrics of silk satin, crepe and cotton contrasted well with the angular structured shoulders.

Whilst a top layer of organza, georgette and chiffon are used to create the illusion of looking outwards through the curtains of windows.

Dress shapes keep the buildings rectangular silhouette by either falling straight from the neckline or...

...with drop waists. 

Whilst rows of windows are represented through the placement of strips of fabric crossing over each other,....

....

......and the cutaway necklines. 

The models wore shoes designed by Bukia with what is becoming to be her signature heel....

....- chunky and triangular.
