Mojito shoe inspired by Marvel’s Thor: the Dark World

To mark the theatrical release of Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World, award winning footwear designer and architect Julian Hake has hand carved a new Mojito shoe. Designed as though Thor himself has hammered the shoe from a solid block of titanium to present to his companion Jane Foster.

Julian Hakes X Disney and Marvel = Iron Man inspired Mojito Sandal

Julian Hakes has applied his futuristic and innovative approach to shoe design with the following question in mind – If Tony Stark himself were to design a pair of shoes for Pepper Potts, what would they look like? 

Julian Hakes has fitted his signature ‘Mojito’ shoe with an LED light, resembling the ‘ARD-reactor’ that powers Iron Man’s suit, to create a one-off unique pair of shoes in Iron Man’s classic red and chrome suit colours. 

‘Because of my design and engineering background, I’ve always been fascinated by Tony Stark in Marvel’s Iron Man comic books and films. The ‘Mojito’ shoe is a result of an architectural driven process’ said Julian Hakes. ‘After realising that only the heel and ball of the feet require support to maximise comfort, I created many different prototypes before arriving at the ‘Mojito’ design – perhaps even rivalling the number of suits created by Tony Stark!’

Gwyneth Paltrow, who plays Pepper Potts in Marvel’s Iron Man 3, is no stranger to Julian Hakes’ work. The movie star donated a signed white pair of Hakes’ ‘Mojito’ shoes to help raise money for ‘Stand Up to Cancer UK’ last year.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2012

The Australian Fashion Week started with a KAPOW!!!! as fashion designer brand Romance Was Born presented their SS12/13 collection titled 'Beserkergang!'.

This collection was inspired by the colourful Marvel Comic characters - Doctor Strange, The Incredible Hulk and Thor to name a few. How many can you see and name on the above outfit? Loving the matching cuffs.

The collection begins in monochrome in honour of the first issues of the Marvel Comics which also started in shades of black, white and grey. Look at the Incredible Hulk pecks on the first outfit!
The Kirby Dots effect is used in honour of legendary comic artist Jack Kirby who created the dots formations to illustrate explosions and other moving effects. Here it is used for shading and toning.

And like the comics, colour packs a powerful punch with bright yellow and black flying to the rescue followed by cyan and magenta, with shimmering gold stealing the end of the show.
