Prophetik AW16 Collection at London Fashion Week

Designer Jeff Garner's AW16 collection 'Ruins & Renaissance' is inspired by novelists Proust and Romantic Platonism.

Colour palette of navy, smoke grey,teal indigo, sea foam, Kelly green and black.

Gradient colouring features throughout the collection with all natural plant and earth based dyes hailing from indigo, dried indigo leaves, madder toot, iron, marigold, osage orange, black walnut, logwood and cochineal.

Fabrics include hemp silk, linen, ramie, organic cottons, peace silk, hemp denims, vintage French lace and reclaimed leather.

Garner has dedicated his collection to his daughter Veda who passed away this year.

Jeff Garner's Prophetik AW12 collection at London Fashion Week

Sustainable fashion designer Jeff Garner decided not to showcase his collection last season at London Fashion Week's SS12 , but happily we see a return for him with his AW12 collection.
Inspired by Princess Grace who was courted by the noble dandy gentleman the collection was titled ‘Courtly Love’

 

And the first long dresses were oh so Princess Grace – sleek yet sophisticated, simple yet glamorous, worn with  regal necklaces from Adorn especially designed for Prophetik. 

Here the snow white gown has a delicate ethereal lace overlay .

Black and white  showed a more dramatic elegance in both  long and short lengths..

Garner's love of the Victorian Deep South look  was there looking delicate and refined in soft shades of pink and white  .....

...  and robust and hardy with the more  farmland styles.

Hemp wool plaid was new to his collection to give an equestrian countryside style in jackets matched with slim jodhpur style capris. 

A dark red jacket with full swing skirt cinched in the waist mixed the equestrian look with Garner’s love of the old Deep South style.

Moving away from the Victorian high necklines, short day time dresses looked cute and innocent at the front with their spaghetti straps and full skirts, but the straps wrapped around the arms to leave the back totally bare.

Not all were backless, others had cross over straps.

Colours were made from plant and earth-based dyes.

The Finale dress was a white strapless bodice made from his grandmothers aged quilts and adorned with a vintage pocket watch, skirt in black peace silk and a trail of black naturally shed ostrich feathers. This dress will be on exhibition at the Smithsonian museum Washington DC from July as part of the 40 under 40 exhibit in the Renwick Gallery

Prophetik AW11 collection at London Fashion Week

Titled ‘Artist Wonderment’,

designer Jeff Garner was inspired by the fashionable French court of Louis XV where frivolity reigned and egos were high, but turns this pretension around to appreciate the wonderment of an artist.

Prophetik is an ethical range so the fabrics used are eco-friendly such as hemp and organic velour. He’s introduced two new fabrics this season: the cactus silk made from the agave plant and his own great grandmother’s 100year old southern quilts!

The quilts were a patchwork of soft colours, but the main colour palette of the collection was neutrals, white, black

   .......and the splashing of rich hues (well it is Louis XV inspired) in emerald, plum, violet, deep scarlet and burgundy.

One of his key pieces was of course the finale dress called ‘Mrs Moulton’ made of hand sewn white ostrich feathers on white silk and silk organza. Why it was called this I don’t know, maybe because the ostrich naturally moults its feathers twice a year? Or it could be Jeff’s old next door neighbour.
Whatever the reason, the feathers gave an otherwise simple gown a touch of grace and playful frothiness.

Another key piece was called ‘Lola’ named after his great grandmother. Here Lola’s old quilt was given a new lease of life as a corset panel and quilted hood. Teamed with wool jodhpurs (considerately lined in linen) which are embellished with reclaimed gold piping and antique gold buttons.

Not all the skirts lengths were sweeping the floor. There were a few day dresses in the collection. 

and Grandma Garner's quilt adorned the bodice -now that’s recycling at its best .

PROPHETIK AUTUMN/WINTER 2010 COLLECTION

Tennessee based Prophetik kicked off the London Fashion Week catwalk shows at Vauxhall Fashion Scout, Freemason’s Hall, Covent Garden. And what a kick off!!!

At the beginning we are lulled in to thinking of a carefree southern country theme when violinist Anna Cwad starts playing toe tapping music, with ex-Paramore Jason Bynum joining her on guitar. Then the band Man Raze shatters this illusion with their fusion of punk and pop rock. Not surprising as their drummer is ex-Sex Pistols Paul Cook and their vocals/lead guitar is ex-Def Leppard Phil Collen. And let’s not forget their bass guitarist Simon Laffy from Brit glam rock act band Girl.

With Man Raze raising the tempo, the show began for ethical designer Jeff Garner’s A/W10 collection titled “Southern Shores”. His inspiration came from the American Civil War and sees hope and romance alongside strife and uncertainty.

Main colour palette in true Civil War colours were blues, greys with a touch of red.

The menswear saw layering and serious looking ¾ length coats, waistcoats, vintage buttons, riding boots and peace silk neckties.

For the women, the designs ranged from jodhpurs, ripped leggings, military jackets and capes to full on Little House on the Prairie style dresses. In-between were mini dresses and long flowing dresses both teamed with flat heeled riding boots.

At the end of the show, the music mellowed as Jeff Garner appeared looking the part of the Southern gent taking a stroll with his Southern belle in her striking long red velvet bustier dress.

Garner’s collection is proof that no fashion look has to be harmed in the making of ethical clothing.

Prophetik is a sustainable men’s and womenswear label using environmentally friendly materials such as organic cottons, hemp, flax, Greenspun (recycled bottles) and organic pigment dyes. One of their signature dresses “the Elle” is made from silk and organic cotton that elephants have painted in collaboration with the AEACP (Asian Elephant Art Conservation Project), which helps to raise funds for an elephant sanctuary in Thailand.”
