After many years working as Heads of Buying and
Merchandising at Topshop, sisters Clare and Mary Burgess saw a gap in the
market that needed to be filled with beautiful on trend dresses designed for
women rather than with the teenager in mind.
They decided this grown up but style conscious woman wanted a dress that wasn’t too short or too
long, too young or too old, too expensive or too cheap, but just like
Goldilocks something that was just right. A style that wouldn't date - a 'Forever Dress'
Orla dress £80 |
So the clothing brand Allium B was born and the sisters set
out to create dresses that would fit in to the modern woman’s busy lifestyle
and transform effortlessly from day to eveningwear with just a few waves of the
accessory wand.
Summer Daisy dress £95 |
For their SS12 collection they have chosen a colour palette
of mint green, blues, raspberry and sienna orange with the classic navy and
black. Only natural fabrics are used and these range from crisp cotton to
floaty georgette, chiffons and soft silk. Archive Liberty prints grace silk
shirt dresses and a Liberty ditsy print blooms on the cotton sundress.
Inspiration was taken from vintage detailing:
Rows of vintage lace on the bodice of the Clara dress came from
Victorian lace gloves found on Portobello market
Amelia dress £140 |
A beaded Peter Pan collar on the Amelia dress was inspired
by a hand sewn vintage 1930s piece.
Daisy dress £110 |
Floral embroidery inspired by a handmade 1950s prom dress runs
up the front and back of both the Spring and sleeveless Summer Daisy dresses.
Mary Diamond dress £80 |
You could say that the collection plays safe, but the styles
are simple and timeless which make great additions to a capsule wardrobe. They also
allow the wearer to update her look each season with fast trend accessories.
And the name? They chose Allium after their favourite flower
and added the letter B simply because of their surname and Brighton where the
company is based.

Sigh, sigh, that red dress screams for me.
