Clements Ribeiro SS14 video campaign
Clements Ribeiro SS14 re-imagines tourists in Rio – partly retro tropical glamour, partly street-savvy fashionista. Inspired by the designers’ collection of 30s-40s butterfly trays from Rio, it started with the prints: a tropical floral enveloping a postcard photo of the Rio Bay is the obvious centrepiece. Ferns and parrots make up other tropical themes.
The iconic black and white wavy pattern of the Copacabana pavement makes a graphic counterpoint whilst the ruffled pencil skirt defines the tropical silhouette. Shorter swing skirts and dresses also introduce a fresh look for the brand. Tailored shorts and tourist shirts complete the Rio look. Black and white, red and white tops and t-shirts evoke the football jerseys. Introducing a new range of printed sweatshirts and t-shirts.

Patouf Spring/Summer 2014 campaign video
Transfixed by the enduring story of love, beyond the love affair, but rather that
blurs the lines of all conformity, Anna’s inspiration for the SS14
collection is the magic between Robert Mapplethorpe and Patti Smith.
The intricate detail, subtle contrasts and duality in his photographs urged Anna to look at the traditional suit, wanting to make something that followed the masculine and feminine body contours.
Seeing the world as a Mapplethorpe photograph, transfixed in duality, Patouf have added zips to the leg to change the shape, forming new lines and blurring existing ones, as did Patti Smith and Mapplethorpe’s relationship.
The subtle changes adapting into the contour of the body in this seasons relaxed and elegantly fluid suit. Being comfortable in your own skin has always been Anna’s motto. The fingerprint pattern that can be seen in this season’s collection identifies with the somewhat continuous explorations with the lines that follow the cut of the suit.
One has to take a closer look to see its true identity. “I learned from him that often contradiction is the clearest way to truth” - Patti Smith, Just Kids

Dolce & Gabbana SS14 Women's Collection
Titled ‘Visions Amongst Temples in Ancient Sicily’ the SS14
women’s collection was inspired by an imaginary journey to rediscover ancient
Sicily where history and myth come together.
The Greek temples and theatres of Sicily, symbols of classic
architectural perfection, are reinterpreted as if in a dream as lithographs on
pieces. The collection included inlaid wood wedges decorated with coins and stones.
Large golden ancient coins created belts whilst the smaller coins adorned the front of flat sandals..
Almond tree flowers are printed, hand painted or applied to the fabric to create a 3D effect.
The finale was a glittering array of various gold lace dresses.

London College of Fashion students collaborate with accessory designer Bill Amberg
London College of Fashion's 2nd year students have collaborated with the accessory designer Bill Amberg's Studio to produce a range of accessories inspired by funtional luxury. The students are studying BA(Hons) Cordwainers Fashion Accessories.
Here is a selection of the work produced:
Stefania Malewicz
Accessories for the chic cyclist using sparkling stingray and burnt orange.
The set includes:
A leather cycling clutch to attach over the crossbar, a carry case and fingerless cycle gloves.
Almost makes me want to take up cycling but these bags are multi functional so you don't have to own a bike.
Stefania has a one year placement with Balenciaga
Lydia Richards designed a leather back pack and has been offered a one year placement with Marc Jacobs.
Iwona Krzynowek and Marine Langande designed large functional briefcases
Rowan Sharp
Impress them at work with this presentation stand which is also hollow to store papers inside. Bill Amberg was very impressed and has offered Rowan a one year placement.
Roosa Tulvio goes for something a little less conventional
An intricate portable picnic tea set.
Mathilde Heintz
And no picnic would be complete without the umbrella holder and newspaper holder.
All the works showed the students' ability in engraving, laser leather cutting, metal work, carving, embossing, carving and molding - all traditional cordwaining skills that LCF students are reviving.

New Perfume House :TFK - The Fragrance Kitchen opens pop up store in Selfridges
Launched in 2012, the new perfume house– TFK, The Fragrance Kitchen
by Sheikh Majed Al-Sabah, is available for a limited period at their pop up store in Selfridges London and online
Based in Kuwait, this perfume house combines the tradition
of Middle Eastern perfumery with the French expertise of Grasse, the perfume
capital of the world, where scents are analysed, executed and bottled.
Fragrance is very important in Kuwait with families closely
guarding secret perfume recipes which have been passed down from generation to
generation. In the UK we may have grandma’s secret recipe
for a pie, jam or cake, but in Kuwait it is much more glamorous with grandma’s
secret recipe being for a fragrance. And
Sheikh Majed’s grandma was no exception as she taught her grandson how to
create scents by mixing oils bought at the souk markets with precious
ingredients sourced from India. Discovering he had a ‘nose’ for perfume, he was
able to take it out of grandma’s kitchen and in to his own ‘Fragrance Kitchen’.
Although the fragrances are all unisex, some are more
feminine and others more masculine.
The collections available are:
Signature Collection:
Numbered rather than named, these 36 fragrances are meant
for everyday use. The bottles are of simple
design. Price £100. Some of these fragrances will be available at the pop up store.
Exclusive Collection:
This line features more opulent scents which are narrative
driven. Sheikh Majed explains that it
isn’t just a fragrance but more of a story or diary evoking memories, journeys
and personal experiences.
The names vary from the straightforward ‘Kuwait’ and
‘Arabia’ to the tongue in cheek such as ‘Gone
with the Smell’ , ‘At Your Own Risk’ and Musky Ever After’. Kuwait and Gone with the Smell will be available at the Selfridges pop up store
Also available at the pop up store is my favourite in both scent and name is ‘War of the Roses’. I
love the floral heart note and the musky dry down. Plus the name is quite apt for a Yorkshire
lass.
The scents in this collection are stronger and more for
evening use. This year the design of the flacon is black with white graphic
patterns but this will change as the idea is to update it yearly, although the
fragrance will remain the same. At the
moment there are 10 fragrances and more to come as Sheikh Majed has plenty of
grandma’s secret recipes. Price £150

We can thank Tom Ford for inspiring Sheikh Majed to open his
own perfume house. In 2009, Tom wanted
an exclusive scent for his new Kuwait boutique and who better to ask than
someone who already custom blended his own perfumes? The scent was called
Arabian Wood and is now part of the exclusive Tom Ford Private Blend
Collection. So thank you Tom for opening
up the fragrance box that otherwise may have been kept just for family and
friends to enjoy.
And if you miss the pop up store all the perfumes can be bought from their boutique in the
exclusive Al Hamra Luxury Centre, Kuwait City. But if that’s a bit too far,
there is always their website www.thefragrancekitchen.com

Anoushka G SS14 Bridal Collection - Decades of Elegance
Last summer Anoushka G's collection took a tour around the world, for the summer of 2014 the inspiration takes a trip through the decades.
Starting with The 1930s
Veering away from the androgynous 20's, the 30's saw a return to the curvy figure. On the above gown, delicate and feminine butterfly sleeves fluttering around the arms- a fashion popular in the 30s
The Forties
Broad shoulders became the trend by the late 30s, early 40s. Above Anoushka emulates the padded shoulder look with beaded embellishments. The embellishment continues around the back.
The Fabulous Fifties
By the mid 40s the swing skirt was in style and in the 50s, well you could say it was in full swing! The strapless gown was a popular evening choice. Here the above gown juxtaposes the strapless with a more demure lace overlay.
The Swinging Sixties
A fashion revolutionary decade ranging from the mod look with simple geometric shift mini dresses to the hippie look with bellbottoms and psychedelic prints. Here Anoushka choose the 60's A line gown in lace layers and the 60s space age look with a satin train billowing out behind a straight shift like gown embellished with corded lace .
Timeless
The low cowl back and folds is a classic, conjuring up images of the ancient Greek & Roman goddesses to the glamorous Hollywood movie stars.
Finale dress
And for a touch of the 21st century elegance was the finale fishtail gown in tulle and embellished in beads.
