Royal Ascot Fashion Show 2011-Stephen Jones

The Royal Ascot Fashion Show would not be complete without a display of headwear and Stephen Jones, the official milliner for Royal Ascot in its tercentary year doesn’t disappoint.

The show featured a mixture of his SS11 and AW10 collection.

Spirits Drifting

 SS11 titled ‘‘Drifting and Dreaming’ was partly inspired by the work of mid century British (from Derby) painter Marion Adams.  Above is his hat named Spirits Drifting. (yellow blouse by Jasper Conran)

Whilst creating this collection he thought of the composition of a painting:

The background – ambient hats, a wash of shade

The midground – driftwood, flowers

The foreground –surrealism, scrollwork

Aftermath

Aftermath - Loosely tied large bow on a skull cap with diamante horns. Named after Adnams 1946 most famous painting titled ‘Aftermath’ with horned animal skull and large ribbon. The painting sold at Christies in 2006 for £2,200.  Pale blue dress by Issa

The Distraught Infanta. Named after and replicating the loose curved folds in Adnams 1944 painting of woman made of curved folded paper.  Jones’ uses hard metal decorated with tiny little stars. The metal reflects colour from the bright red dress by Issa.

The English Heritage trend at online boutigue Fashion Union

Another AW10 trend www.fashionunion.co.uk are intoducing is English Heritage.

ENGLISH HERITAGE
This is always a good Autumn/Winter trend as it involves lots of warm fabrics such as tweeds, cords and knitwear to keep you cosy during the cold months.
The main colour palette for the English Heritage look are earthy muted tones, so this season you have the added bonus of looking super trendy if you combine this look with the hottest colour of the season : camel.
This look is one of the most comfortable to wear:

They have stretchy cord stirrup treggings in stone.

And stretch skinny fit jodpurs in mocha - not a button or zip in sight. Also loving the elasticated waist cord mini skirt in chocolate- team with their chocolate leggings or glam it up with their purple diamond opaque tights.

Flat or low heels are best. Combine the other top trend of buckles with the brown or taupe Horizon buckle boot.

Or be super patriotic with Union Jack wellies.

Layering is key with button back polo top in chocolate......

.... batwing pocket knits in oatmeal marl.....

......., roller gilet in red, taupe or white.......

......., and the khaki or blue Ava Parka.

Satchels are a big trend for handbags this season. Longer shoulder straps allow you to wear crossed over the body (also safer)

GOTHIC LACE

This trend is all about dark moody colours and vintage look lace.

Here we see the new bodysuit top trend in figure hugging black lace.

Chunky Knits

The September Trends from Mod Box at TKMaxx

Mod Box at TK Maxx is geared towards the younger market and its aim is to keep ahead with the latest must have styles. For this AW 2010 La Perla have condensed their 19 brands down to 3 main brands

Home-Trendy-Home has a casual approach to homewear with loose openwork woollen lace pieces and a cosy lapin shrug and waistcoat. 

Sauvage Town cuts a cute sassy look in leopard print tulle edged with a narrow floral lace hem.

Silver Lurex reflects light in the grosgrain effect soft jersey pieces with its silver Lurex stripes.

HOLLY FULTON A/W10 Collection

Holly Fulton's inspiration for the A/W 2010 season style came from the cinema du look of the 80’s: relaxed French clothing meets Dr Zhivago.
And the colour palette from the glass artist Louis Barillet’s use of black, white & grey.
Bold splashes of orange and yellow are seen along with a bright blue.
Bold graphic prints with a touch of art deco are complimented with Holly’s equally bold patterned jewellery and large clutch bags.

Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection of the Pretty Ballerinas pumps

The A/W collection sees the sexy Marilyn ballet pumps in styles of :

Titled “Cleopatra Chic” Olcay Gulsen’s inspiration came from the image conscious Queen of Ancient Egypt and plays on female dominance. 

Main colour palette is neutrals and autumnal shades with some outfits in block colours of black and dark red. 

Prints give either a romantic feel with large roses in soft golden shades on floaty fabric or an exotic look with animal prints in snakeskin and zebra.  

Jersey mini dresses are worn along chunky cable knits with fringe details.

Layering is key with fluid fabrics, leather, knits and simple jersey pieces.
