Accessorizing the Long Sleeved Dress on a Cold Day

The long sleeve dress is a great addition to a woman’s winter capsule wardrobe and with the right accessories the transition from day to evening is smooth running.


As you may know from my last post I chose M&S long sleeve abstract print dress for my winter capsule wardrobe.

And as promised I’d like to show you how versatile it is.

For a day attending press events, it is important to be comfortable as it does entail a lot of running around.

The long sleeve dress enables me to wear a lighter coat and still keep warm without the need of a bulkier and cumbersome coat.

The classic trench coat in both short or long length is ideal. Plus the colour of this short trench coat completely matches the beige in the dress.

Long sleeve dresses also look great with boots low or high heeled.  Here worn with mid heeled boots.

A long sleeved dress gives a sense of elegance so try not to cover up the sleeves with a cardigan.


Instead I've layered with a thin polo neck jumper underneath choosing a matching beige colour. Add a pair of thick tights and you're ready for the colder weather.

The jumper/dress combo creates two necklines. You still have the flattering V which suits both the small to the large bust, whilst the polo provides warmth and coverage on a cold day.

Plus the space in between the necklines is perfect for a statement necklace.



One of the press venues included a footwear store so I just had to try on some of their shoes.

 Don't you think this pair of ankle boots with the beige piping goes really well with the dress?

The M&S Long Sleeved Dress - Perfect for AW13

We’re truly into Autumn now as the cold weather sets in. So it’s time to pack away our little summer frocks and start unpacking (or buying) warmer long sleeved equivalents.


 In the summer we love to show off our tanned arms in sleeveless dresses, but in the colder months when the tan starts to fade so does our confidence as we become self conscious of our not so toned upper arms.


 Long sleeved dresses bring back that confidence and keep us warm without hiding under bulky knitwear.

However sometimes it is hard to find a sleeved dress but M&S have come to the rescue and increased their range of sleeved dresses by 80% this season.

And now it’s which one to choose from the wide selection of choices? Decisions, decisions!

Finally I chose the M&S Collection abstract print dress with ¾ length sleeves. The colour is navy and beige, but the navy is so dark it would also go well with a black jacket or cardigan.

I love the length of the sleeves as any bracelets or watches are still proudly on display whilst arms are kept warm and covered.

This dress also has front pleats which are great for camouflaging the tummy area.
And the abstract print is good for hiding any lumps and bumps.

The length of the sleeve is important as the eye is drawn to where the sleeve finishes. 
Short sleeves will bring attention to the bust area, elbow length the waist and 3/4 to the hips.
So keep this in mind when choosing your sleeved dress.

How To Wear A Long Sleeve Dress

1. Now, I'm going to talk about how to wear a long sleeve dress. The principle is the same whether it's a long sleeve blouse or a long sleeve dress. If you have long sleeves, you may want to consider layering it, like this waist coat, you got different layers of both lengths which are fine.
   
   It could add details to the garments. But you do have to keep a keeping with the style of the actual long sleeve dress. For instance, this is the Bohemian dress, so you need to go to choose a waist coat which is eclectic and in the Bohemian style.
   
   So you can mix your patterns because that's the Bohemian look, so that's what you do for the bohemian look. If you don't want to wear a knitted waist coat, you could wear a fergila that's very in style at the moment. Also, for a more conservative look, maybe work wear, you may want to consider, this is the blouse dress, you may want to just consider wearing a waist top.
   
   What you do is you don't conceal, they are actually beautiful sleeves that still on the show but it gives you actually warms on the top half. For a plainer long sleeve dress, you may want to add more color or texture such as this scarf. It brings the details, the focus, more to the front of the dress.
   
   And for a patterned or sequenced long sleeve dress, the focus is actually on the long sleeves, so you don't want to cover them up. So just add a statement necklace which is this, try not to go for statement earrings because it will bring more details, concentrate more details on the shoulders. So, go for a statement necklace which actually balances the detailing, you got detail on the arms and then you got some detail in the center.
   
   For this one also, because it's the cold lam top sleeves, because that's quite white at the top, if you're just wearing an ordinary coat, you squash them up, so go for the capes. Now, they are quite in trend. So you could go for the capes or a shawl for the evening.
