Earning Your Monochrome Fashion Stripes

It may be clear to all that the colours are black and white but how do you wear this on trend combination?
Earning your Fashion Stripes
Whether they are horizontal or vertical, wide or narrow, stripes are the most fashionable way to wear this trend
Jaeger Boutique chooses the bold vertical and adds sparkle with a sequin peplum top. Here seen with monochrome skirt.

 Peplum top £99

Skirt £80

Jaeger’s bold monochrome dress from their mainline collection goes for the horizontal stripes, but adds a change of stripe direction at the top giving the impression of an empire line and drawing the eye to the smallest part of the body.  Price £199

Warehouse’s tailored striped dress also cinches in the waist. This time, the stripes on the side panels change direction so the front horizontal stripes are shorter and give the illusion of an hour glass figure. The front pockets also add to the hour glass look giving a slightly tulip shape to the dress.   A shorter length and in shiny sateen fabric with a sexy cut out back trimmed in solid black Price£60.

Black and white is a dramatic look, but also can be quite harsh and wash out the paler complexions. A better and more flattering alternative would be the softer black and ivory combination.
The Leanna dress from Hobbs Invitation line is in feminine silk organza mix fabric and the feminine 50s inspired fit and flared style makings a great summer dress. Again the change in the stripes narrows the waist and the cross over V neckline enhances both the larger and smaller bust.

Was £229 Now on sale at £179.
Worn here with a pair of Hobbs Rene court shoes in black suede. Price £149 Wearing suede rather than leather keeps the black soft and compliments the dress.

Customise your beauty regime with Sepai Tune It

Spanish skincare brand Sepai debuts its new Tune It and Basic lines in the UK, exclusively at Selfridges.
Tune It does as it says, it enables you to finely tune your moisturiser, serum and body lotion for your own specific skincare requirements.
How? By providing you with a selection of concentrated actives sold separately from the base lotions. You then add your chosen actives into Sepai’s basic line products and Voila! You have your own personalised skincare treatment.
These actives are sold separately to the base lotion but due to their high concentration, they are not intended to be used directly on the skin without being mixed into the lotion. For ease they come in syringes (without the needle) which help push the contents into the base products. The bottles of the base products are made larger to give enough room to add up to three actives plus enough space for mixing the new contents by shaking the bottle. Labels are provided so you don’t forget which extracts you’ve used. It’s your own mini skincare laboratory.
There are eight facial extracts including:
Relax Like extract – a mini Botox effect by a powerful peptide that helps inhibit muscle cell contraction Flashed extract -provides immediate tensor and illumination effect.
Volumising extract – for a plumped up younger looking skin
Elasticity extract – inhibits the activity or elastase (the enzyme responsible for breaking down elastic fibre) and so optimises the quality of the skin’s elastin. Designed to treat the flaccidity and firmness of mature skin.
Others include firming, lifting, brightening and tan prolonging

The seven body extracts range from combating the appearance of cellulite, help slimming, firming to prolonging your tan.
The base products are:
Invisible- a light serum with actives that improves skin complexion and light reflectors to visual soften fine lines and imperfections
Paparazzi – a light and antioxidant moisturiser with protective cell repairing actives and iridescent pigments to brighten the complexion
V7.3 Body Primer – a nourishing body lotion. Rich body milk that provides extra nutrition and has a silky texture based on natural oils.
These base products can be used by themselves, but if and when you want extra help on specific skincare requirements, the extracts are the answer.

All products available at Selfridges store and some online:

United Nude Footrwear opens up two new London Stores

United Nude is excited to announce the opening of two new stores in London:  A United Nude pop-up store on Neal Street opened at the end of April and a United Nude Concept store on London’s prestigious Regent Street opened in May.

Together with the amazing Flagship Store on Floral Street in Covent Garden, which opened in summer 2011, this makes a total of three United Nude stores in London.

United Nude’s Creative Director and Founder Rem D Koolhaas:
“I’m delighted about the fact that we are opening new stores around the world in today’s turbulent environment. The pop-up shops are great for us: the process for opening them is a lot faster and more energetic than for traditional shops, which suits our style. It allows us to test new locations and sometimes a pop-up turns into a more permanent store due to its success. I also think that pop-ups are becoming more and more common and there will be more companies that will open them as we do.

Sorapol AW13 Collection - Immortal

Sorapol AW13/14 collection titled ‘Immortal’ tells the tale of Xiaohe, a young girl given to a Chinese Emperor as a diplomatic gift.
As she travels through Asia, India and Persia to her final destination, she becomes deluded and begins to believe that she is the ruler of every land she visits, demanding the most exquisite jewels and luxuries.

Designer Sorapol Chawaphatnakul certainly succumbs to these demands with extravagant silk fabrics, lavish prints, detailed embroidery and ornate finishings.
Wooden stilt sandals restrict the models’ walk to a slow pace and elevate the models into her ‘Xiaohe’ regal persona, high above those of her lowly subjects. The ornate headpieces designed by Emily Frances Barrett, give more height and ensure she stands majestically straight.
The collection is a mix of dramatic couture creations and those of elegant and polished Ready to Wear pieces.

For drama the skirt of one heavily embroidered outfit formed a wide and exaggerated fishtail design with the contrasting silk bottom exploding in to a voluminous bubble shape and sweeping the floor with its short train.

The Ready to Wear pieces were equally stunning with tapestry design on coats,

intricate lace and embroidery and flowing silks and chiffons.

Styles ranged from tailored boxy jackets and straight skirts to smooth silk dresses and gowns.  Adorned with gold rope piping, shining mirror embellishments,

and my favourite – small colourful pom poms in fluffy faux fur.

Maria Grachvogel AW13 Collection

Titled Reflection, this collection was inspired by the quiet calm of winter woodland landscapes laid bare.

Artwork is of stark dried branches, decayed leaves and negatives of deconstructive botanical prints. On paper it sounds cold and harsh, but on silk chiffon, satin, velvet and wool it’s a warmer and softer story.

Texture was a key feature with degrade wool creating the illusion through a black and ivory mix.
This leather belted sheepskin coat will definitely keep you warm. Here paired with black sweater and black jacquard trousers. The woven jacquard pattern on the trousers creates an illusion of a vintage embroidered lace overlay and was also seen on dresses, skirts and jackets throughout the collection.

For the first time Grachvogel introduces the more casual skinny stretch pant and teams with her signature artwork print tops. The silk satin blouse is in the white on black negative graphic botanical print.
Wedge ankle boots in artwork printed leather and glossy patent are collaboration with Atalanta Weller

Heohwan Simulation AW13 Collection

(shift dress)
May 1968, Paris saw protests and strikes on a grand scale by its young students and workers; a revolution that was cultural and sexual as well as political.

With a collection titled ‘Editorials in ‘68’ Korean born designer Hwan Heo takes inspiration from the French political and fashion editorials of that time and creates a silk collage print of the fashion magazines and photos of the social movement.

As though starting a new revolution of their own, the black and white prints spring to life with splashes of neon yellow and blue.

However it wasn’t the print that was the forefront of this rebellion, but the tailoring.  Lines were clean and strong with crisp folded panel detailing. Model wearing ZanZan sunglasses from their Mizaru range

The shift dress of the 60’s was updated in leather with velvet panelling  and accessorised with fur details.

The soft velvet panelling brought warmth and extra texture to the leather pieces.

Oversized jackets had seriously dropped shoulders and extra long sleeves

Large zips with elongated puller heads were both decorative and functional. The winter white jacket, embossed with a floral desing.

The polo neck, the uniform of the 60’s Beatniks, was there quietly supporting the collection revolution.

With its stunning ‘white noise’ print, and a slim line nod to Pierre Cardin 60’s style cocoon shape coats.

And for more of a dramatic entrance is this fur trimmed cape coat.
